Easy to do just dip it in hot water .

if it opens it good , you could even use a thermostat to test heat of water and determine the exact temperature it opens at , if your so inclined .

if it opens its good enough for me .

You can also test the temperature sensor fitted to the cylinder

 head

Test between the connection at the top of sensor and
 
the earth of the threads , did in hot water and it should decrease

 in resistance ohms 

value as the sensor gets hotter , if not renew here .








Other Possible Cagiva Mito 125 Overheating and Coolant cooling system problems

Firing incorrect
Spark plug dirty, broken, or maladjusted
Spark plug incorrect


Fuel/air mixture incorrect:
Main jet clogged or wrong size
Fuel level in carburetor float bowl too low
Carburetor holder loose
Air cleaner poorly sealed, or missing
Air cleaner duct poorly sealed
Air cleaner clogged

Compression high:
Carbon built up in combustion chamber
incorrect squish
incorrect head - barrel combo
other cylinder/head piston faults

Clutch slipping
Engine oil level too high
Engine oil viscosity too high
Drive train trouble
Brake dragging

Lubrication inadequate:
Engine oil level too low
Engine oil poor quality or incorrect

cooling system :
Coolant level too low
Coolant deteriorated
Radiator clogged
Thermostat trouble
Radiator cap trouble
Water pump not turning
Water pump impeller damaged
Water leak somewhere in system
