The Mikuni TM35 is the "holy grail" of carburetors for the Cagiva Mito 125. Standard on early 7-speed models and high-end racing setups, this 35mm flat-slide carb offers a massive performance boost over the standard 28mm Dellorto. However, with increased performance comes the need for precise maintenance.

If your bike is stuttering or failing to hit the powerband, a thorough strip-down of the TM35 is often required to clear the delicate internal passages.

Mikuni TM35 Original Factory Settings ('95 Racing):

  • Main Jet: 310

  • Pilot Jet: 45

  • Jet Needle: 6AEL4-60 (4th clip from bottom)

  • Throttle Slide: 5.5

  • Air Screw: 1.5 turns out from closed

Step-by-Step Strip Down Guide:

  1. Safety First: Drain the fuel bowl into a glass jar. Check for debris or water contamination—even tiny particles can block the TM35's sensitive jets.

  2. Slide Removal: Unscrew the top cap and carefully pull out the flat slide and needle. Inspect the needle for wear or bending.

  3. The Float Bowl: Remove the four screws at the base. Be careful with the gasket; these can be hard to source individually.

  4. Jet Cleaning: Remove the Main Jet and Pilot Jet. Use a dedicated carb cleaner or, better yet, an Ultrasonic Cleaner to ensure the internal "emulsifier" holes are clear.

  5. The Float Valve: Inspect the needle valve tip. If it has a "ring" worn into the rubber, it will cause the carb to leak fuel from the overflow.

Tuning Tip:

If you are running an "Aftermarket" setup or a sports exhaust, many owners find success moving to a 350 Main Jet and a 20 Pilot Jet to prevent the bike from running too lean at high RPM.

its always advisable after any change to do a plug chop test (see below) to test combustion conditions , this will give a clear indication of the jetting state , also its recommended to increase jets size 5 points for any sports airfilter or exhaust fitted again do the plug chop test to ensure correct running conditions
